Master's thesis in the Department of Communications Engineering
Written by ahmedThe Department of Communications Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master's degree to student Jaafar Ali Jaafar for his thesis
“Evaluating the performance of multiple-input, multiple-output technology on an optical network.”
The thesis aims to design a free-space communication system with a high data transfer rate through the use of different types of advanced modulation techniques under different climatic conditions
. In addition, applying multiple input, multiple output technology to mitigate these effects. The message also aimed to increase the capacity of the system by using WDM technology with different spacing distances between channels and observing the effect of changing that distance on the system.
:Most notable results
The use of multiple inputs and multiple outputs technology led to improving the system by reducing the effect of signal drop due to weather and increasing the transmission range by 49.3%, 78.6%, and 108% for the 2x2, 4x4, and 8x8 technologies, respectively, under clear weather conditions. This percentage decreased to 12.33%, 18.5%, and 24.6% under heavy dust conditions.
The discussion committee consisted of the following professors:
prof. Dr. Ali Jabbar Salem, Chairman
prof Dr. Samer Muhammad Ali, member
Dr. Ali Karim Nahar, member
prof. Dr. Atheer Alaa Sabry, member and supervisor
prof. Dr. Wael Abdel Hassan Hadi, member and supervisor

Visit of the Communications Engineering Department to Asia Cell Company
Written by ahmedSome of the professors and students of the fourth stage in the Wireless Communications Systems Engineering branch made a scientific visit to Asiacell Communications Company. The visit witnessed a meeting with some of the engineers working in the company to learn about the nature of the work of a communications engineer and the challenges they face in the labor market.
The tour also included a visit to the rest of the company’s departments, RF Planning & Optimization, IT & Telecom Security, and NOC, to enable students to learn about the applied side of scientific subjects and to give students an idea of the places where they can advance in the labor market in the future.
Effective Activities of students of the Communications Engineering Department

A workshop in the Department of Communications Engineering
Written by ShaymaA workshop in the Department of Communications Engineering
Under the sponsorship of the Head of the Communications Engineering Department, Prof. Afanin Anwar Abboud, the Communications Engineering Department held a workshop within the activities of the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division entitled (Accreditation Keys, a successful experiment of Energy and renewable Energy Programs)
Delivered by Professor Dr. Jalal Muhammad Jalil from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering and a member of the Iraqi Engineering Accreditation Council, on Sunday, 22-10-2023, in the Green Hall in the Department of Communications Engineering.
The aim of the workshop was to introduce the Communications Engineering Department to the successful experience of the Energy and Renewable Energy Engineering Branch in obtaining national program accreditation from the Iraqi Council for Engineering Accreditation.
Several topics were also discussed related to the standards required in the program and all the elements related to these standards, and a brief explanation of the most important requirements that must be met to obtain program accreditation and the optimal plan for implementing them with the time periods required to complete the program. The discussion was also opened for attendees to benefit from the experience.
After the students of the fourth stage passed the optical cable course, which was held in the Department of Communications Engineering and in cooperation with the Aswar Academy for a period of four days, during which a theoretical and practical test was conducted for them. The results and certificates of participation were distributed by the institution and in the presence of the head of the department. Asst. Lecturer. Dr. Avaneen Anwar Abboud to the participating students.

A student from the Department of Communications Engineering receives the best research award from the University of Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman
Student Arwa Atheel Hassan, in the fourth year of the Department of Communications Engineering, won the best research award for her participation in the scientific conference held at the University of Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman. And her research tagged (monitoring water bodies using remote sensing satellites) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thamer Muhammad Jamil was the best among the fifty researches A number of Arab countries and various engineering disciplines participated in the conference, which was held electronically
The researcher concluded that it is possible to estimate the surfaces of water bodies by using open access to data from Earth observation satellites such as Sentin 1-2 and LandSat-1-9, with a workflow consisting of several blocks to perform certain tasks:
1- Implement a workflow using RGB to image real color images of water bodies
2- Water detection using NBWI, MNDWI and SwI
3- Developing the index for using the blue scale that has not been used before.
Head of Communications Engineering Department Asst. Lecturer Dr. Avaneen Anwar Abboud inspected the final exams for the second semester for primary studies students. During the tour, she was briefed on the mechanisms used, the type of exam questions, the extent of their difficulties, and the plans in force during the exam period.
The Department of Communications Engineering holds a training course in cooperation with Aswar Academy for Training and Development.
The Communications Engineering Department, under the direct supervision of the department head, Prof. Dr. Afaneen Anwar Abboud, and in cooperation with Aswar Academy for Training and Development, held an optical cable course in the optical cable laboratory for students and graduates of the department. The course was held under the direction of Dr. Hossam Hussein, responsible for the Scientific Division and Cultural Relations, and teacher Hussein Abdul Karim, responsible for the Graduates Follow-up, Qualification and Employment Unit.
